224 – ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Salih narrated to me; he said: al-Hakam ibn Yaʿla narrated to me; he said: al-Hasan al-Basri said: “Seeking what sets your affairs right in this world is not, in itself, an expression of loving the world. Part of your renunciation of it is to forgo a need whose very abandonment satisfies it for you. Whoever loves the world and takes delight in it—the fear of the Hereafter departs from his heart.”
