202 – Sulaymān ibn Abī Shaykh narrated to me; he said: Abū Sufyān al-Himyari narrated to us—I think it was from Ḥuṣayn—who said:
‘Amr ibn Maymūn al-Awdi came from the mosque of Kufa after having led them in al-‘atamah (the night prayer). When he reached his people he found them talking, so he asked, “What were you discussing?” They replied, “We were remembering the death of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb and the calamity that struck us with it.” He said, “You want this world to endure, while Allah wills nothing for it but extinction. Indeed, the world perishes with the passing of the righteous.”
