201 – Ibn Abī Maryam narrated to us, saying: Zakariyyā ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us; he said: Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Kindī narrated to me, saying:

“I once sent a friend of mine a gift of sugar. He wrote back to me: ‘Do not do that again, and let brotherhood stay as it is until we meet with nothing in our hearts.’ He then wrote at the bottom of his letter:

‘Whoever pursues this world for what is lawful, attractive, and pleasing is neither praised nor considered worthy of envy in Allah’s sight; so what, then, of someone who seeks it from the hands of ⦗98⦘ created beings, or one who defiles it and spoils it with disgrace and loss?’”
