196 – He said: al-Hasan said, “A believer is the one who is convinced that whatever Allah has spoken is exactly as He has spoken it. The believer therefore performs the finest deeds yet is the most fearful of all people. Were he to give away a mountain’s worth of wealth, he would still not feel secure until he actually beholds the outcome. The more he grows in righteousness, piety, and worship, the more his apprehension increases, saying, ‘I shall not be saved.’ ⦗96⦘
By contrast, the hypocrite says, ‘The common folk are many, and I will surely be forgiven; nothing bad will happen to me.’ He behaves wickedly while entertaining wishful hopes about Allah, Mighty and Majestic.”
