Al-ZuhdIbn Abi al-Dunya

185 – Hamzah ibn al-ʿAbbās narrated to me; he said: ʿAbdān ibn ʿUthmān reported to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak told us; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn Nashīṭ ⦗89⦘ narrated to us; he said: Kaʿb ibn ʿAlqamah narrated to us, stating that Saʿd ibn Masʿūd al-Tujībī said:

“When you observe a servant whose worldly fortune keeps expanding while his portion of the hereafter keeps contracting—and he persists in that course, content with it—then he is the cheated one who toys with his own face yet remains unaware.”
