183 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to me; he said: ʿAwn ibn ʿUmārah narrated to me; he said: Abū Muḥriz al-Tufāwī said:
“People have become infatuated with the worldly life, yet they will never obtain from it more than the share that has been allotted to them. They have turned away from the Hereafter, even though it is only by seeking it that the servants hope to save their own souls.
“When the discerning realized that the higher of the two abodes enjoys the loftiest rank, they pursued loftiness through lofty deeds. They understood that nothing is attained except by offering something greater, so they put forward the very best they possessed—by Allah, they laid down their very life-blood for Allah—hoping for the greatest hope that lies with Him and for relief on a Day when no seeker will ever be disappointed.”
