179 – ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to me; he said: al-Muḥāribī related to us, from Sufyān, who said: It has reached us that Luqmān said to his son:
“My son, this world is a deep ocean in which many people drown. Let your ship across it be the fear of Allah, Exalted is He; let its cargo be faith in Allah, Exalted is He; and let its sail be reliance upon Allah. Perhaps you will be saved, though I do not see you as one who will be.”
