170 – Hārūn ibn Sufyān narrated to me; al-Walīd ibn Ṣāliḥ told me; Abū al-Malīḥ reported from Maymūn—meaning Ibn Mihrān—who said: “All of this world is a mere trifle; most of that trifle has already slipped away, and only a small remnant of the remnant is left.”
A man from Banū Yashkur recited to me:
(Meter: ramal)
- This world—even when it pleases—is but a little of a little ⦗82⦘
- It never fails to present itself to you in a comely attire,
- Then, from the midst of your safety, it pelts you with a grave calamity.
- True life is to dwell near Allah, beneath His cooling shade,
- Where you hear nothing that can harm you of people’s gossip and idle talk.
