17 – Hārūn ibn ʿAbd Allāh and ʿAlī ibn Muslim narrated to us; they said: Siyyār narrated to us; he said: Jaʿfar narrated to us; he said: Mālik ibn Dīnār said: They asked ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib — may Allah be pleased with him, “Abū al-Ḥasan, describe the life of this world for us.”

He answered, “Shall I go on at length or keep it short?”

They said, “Keep it short.”

He said, “Its lawful portion will be subject to Reckoning, and its unlawful portion leads to the Fire.”
