151 – Khālid ibn Khidāsh narrated to us; he said: Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated to us, from ʿAlī ibn Zayd and al-Muʿallā, from al-Ḥasan:

The Prophet ﷺ once passed by a cluster of houses that dated back to the age of ignorance. There he noticed a hairless, prematurely born kid that had been discarded. He asked, “Do you think this creature had any worth to its owners?” They replied, “They threw it away precisely because it was worthless to them.” He said, “By Him in whose hand is my soul, this world is even more insignificant to Allah than that kid is to its owners.”

Al-Ḥasan added, “Those who witnessed the incident related it to us.”
