123 – Ziyad ibn Ayyub narrated to us; he said: Saʿid ibn ʿAmir narrated to us; he said: Husayn Abū Jaʿfar narrated to us, from al-Kalbi, who said: “I saw al-Hasan in Mecca and asked him about something, but he did not answer me. So I said, ‘We ask you, O assembly of jurists, yet you do not respond to us!’ He replied, ‘Woe to you! Have you ever with your own eyes seen a jurist at all? And do you know who the jurist is? The jurist is the one who is detached from the world, longs for the Hereafter, perseveres in worship, and is clear-sighted about his religion.’”
