118 – Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd al-Jawharī related to me; he said: Mūsā ibn Ayyūb narrated, from ʿAlī ibn Bakkār, from Ibrāhīm ibn Adham, who said:
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, direct me to a deed that will make Allah love me and make people love me as well.” He replied, “As for the deed that will earn you Allah’s love, renounce the world. And as for the deed that will earn you people’s love, relinquish to them whatever worldly trifles are in your hand.”
