10 – Surayj ibn Yūnus narrated to me; he said: Marwān ibn Muʿāwiya narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Abī Qays, from Sulaymān ibn Ḥabīb, from Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

When Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was commissioned as a Messenger, the troops of Iblīs came to him and said, “A prophet has been raised up and his community has been brought forth.” He asked, “Do they love the life of this world?” They replied, “Yes.” He said, “So long as they love it, I do not mind whether or not they worship idols. Morning and evening I shall assail them with three (ploys): acquiring wealth without right, spending it without right, and withholding it from its rightful due—and every other evil follows on from these.”
