Al-Amr bi-l-Ma'ruf wa-l-Nahy 'an al-MunkarIbn Abi al-Dunya

94 – Hārūn ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to us; he said: Sayyār ibn Ḥātim related to us; he said: Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān related to us; he said: aṣ-Ṣalt ibn Ṭarīf al-Maʿwalī related to us; he said: a shaykh from the people of al-Madāʾin related to us; he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Today you stand upon clear guidance in your affair: you command what is right, forbid what is wrong, and strive in the path of Allah. The two intoxications have not yet appeared among you—the intoxication of worldly comfort and the intoxication of ignorance. Soon you will be shifted to something else: love of this world will spread among you. When that happens, you will neither command what is right, nor forbid what is wrong, nor strive in the path of Allah. Truly, those who, on that day, uphold the Book in private and in public will rank with the very first forerunners among the Emigrants and the Helpers.”
