92 – Abū Bakr said, “In that very gathering I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declare:
‘No people ever abandon fighting in the path of Allah without Allah striking them with humiliation, and no people ever let evil dwell unchallenged in their midst without Allah surrounding them all with punishment. Nothing, therefore, stands between you and a sweeping punishment from your Lord except that you recite this verse out of the purpose for which Allah revealed it—reciting it without enjoining right or forbidding wrong:
“O you who believe, guard your own souls; those who have gone astray will not harm you once you have been guided” (al-Māʾidah 5:105).’”
٩٢ - قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ،: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي ذَلِكَ الْمَجْلِسِ يَقُولُ: " مَا تَرَكَ قَوْمٌ الْقِتَالَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا ضَرَبَهُمُ اللَّهُ بِذُلٍّ، وَلَا قَرَّ قَوْمٌ الْمُنْكَرَ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِهِمْ إِلَّا عَمَّهُمُ اللَّهُ بِعِقَابٍ، وَمَا بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ أَنْ يَعُمَّكُمُ اللَّهُ بِعِقَابٍ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ تَتْلُوا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَنْزَلَهَا اللَّهُ ﷿ عَلَيْهِ عَلَى غَيْرِ أَمْرٍ بِمَعْرُوفٍ وَلَا نَهْيٍ عَنْ مُنْكَرٍ: ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْفُسَكُمْ لَا يَضُرُّكُمْ مَنْ ضَلَّ إِذَا اهْتَدَيْتُمْ﴾ [المائدة: ١٠٥] "
