Al-Amr bi-l-Ma'ruf wa-l-Nahy 'an al-MunkarIbn Abi al-Dunya

72 – ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to us, from Faraj ibn Saʿīd, from Yūsuf ibn Asbāṭ, who said: I heard Sufyān say that Ḥudhayfah declared, “A man may enter a situation in which, for Allah’s sake, he is duty-bound to speak, yet he keeps silent; after that his heart will never return to what it once was.”

Yūsuf continued: I recounted this to Abū Isḥāq al-Fazārī when he returned from the court of Hārūn, whereupon he wept and asked, “Did you yourself hear this from Sufyān?”
