65 – Hamzah ibn al-ʿAbbās narrated to me; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān informed us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak reported to us; he said: Saif ibn Abī Sulaymān related; he said: I heard ʿAdiyy ibn ʿAdiyy al-Kindī say: “One of our servants told me that he heard my grandfather say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:

‘Allah does not punish the general populace for the deed of a privileged few until they witness an evil openly committed in their midst while they are able to repudiate it, yet they do not. If they fail to denounce it, Allah will punish both the commoners and the elite.’”
