64 – ʿUthmān ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to me; he said: the nephew of Rushdīn ibn Saʿd informed us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿUthmān reported: “Fudayl ibn ʿIyāḍ saw a man cracking his knuckles during the prayer and sternly rebuked him. The man replied, ‘Good sir, whoever stands before Allah to perform an act of worship ought to serve as a guide.’ Fudayl wept and said, ‘You have spoken the truth.’”
