57 – ʿAbd Allāh—meaning Ibn al-Mubārak—also informed us; that same man transmitted, from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, from an unnamed source:
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Aʿraj once noticed a man in the mosque performing his prayer badly. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said to him, “Stand up and pray.” The man replied, “I have already prayed.” He answered, “No, by Allah, you shall not leave until you pray.” The man protested, “What business is that of yours, O Aʿraj?” He retorted, “By Allah, you will pray properly, or something will take place between you and me that will bring the entire congregation of the mosque down upon us.” So the man rose and performed a sound, well-executed prayer.
