56 – Hamzah ibn al-ʿAbbās narrated to me, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān informed us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak related to us; he said: a certain man transmitted, from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, from Wahb ibn Kaysān, from ʿAmr ibn Shaddād al-Laythī, who said:
“By Allah, I once prayed while al-Miswar ibn Makhramah was in front of me, and I performed the reckless prayer of youth—the way a rooster pecks the ground. He shuffled over to me and said, ‘Stand up and pray.’ I replied, ‘I have already prayed; may Allah grant you well-being.’ He said, ‘By Allah, you have not. You are lying—by Allah, you will not leave until you pray properly.’ So I stood and prayed again, fully completing the bowing and the prostration. Then al-Miswar said, ‘By Allah, for as long as we are able, you will not disobey Allah while we are watching.’”
