44 – Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥīm narrated to me; he said: Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm al-Marwazī narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-ʿUmari narrated to us, from his father, from Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ proclaimed:
“O people, command what is right and forbid what is wrong before you call upon Allah and He does not answer you, and before you seek His forgiveness and He refuses to forgive you. Truly, commanding the right and forbidding the wrong neither curtails provision nor brings the appointed term any nearer. The rabbis of the Jews and the monks of the Christians, when they abandoned commanding the right and forbidding the wrong, were cursed by Allah through the tongues of their prophets, after which a general calamity encompassed them all.”
