Al-Amr bi-l-Ma'ruf wa-l-Nahy 'an al-MunkarIbn Abi al-Dunya

29 – Suwayd ibn Saʿīd narrated to us; he said: Ṣāliḥ ibn Mūsā narrated to us, from Abū Ḥāzim, from Sahl ibn Saʿd al-Sāʿidī, who said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once said to ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, “What will you do when you remain among the dregs of people—people whose pledges and trusts have become confused, who differ until they are like this?”—and he interlaced his fingers. ʿAbd Allāh replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.”

He said, “Then act upon what you know to be right, leave what you find objectionable, beware of fickleness in the religion of Allah, concern yourself with your own soul, and leave the common folk to themselves.”
