27 – Abū Hishām narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Rahīm ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid narrated to us, from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim, who said: I heard Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, may Allah be pleased with him, say:

“People! You recite this verse: ‘O you who believe, you are responsible only for yourselves; those who have gone astray will not harm you once you are rightly guided’ (al-Māʾidah 5:105). Yet we heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘When people hear evil and do not change it, Allah is about to encompass them all with a punishment.’”
