41 – Al-Qurashī said: Ḥannād ibn al-Sarī narrated to us; Abū al-Aḥwaṣ narrated to us, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from Murrah al-Hamdānī, from Ibn Masʿūd—tracing it back to the Prophet—who said:
“Indeed, Satan has a lammah (prompting) with the child of Adam, and the angel has a lammah as well. The lammah of Satan is a threat of evil and a denial of the truth, whereas the lammah of the angel is a promise of good and a confirmation of the truth. Whoever senses the latter should know that it is from Allah and praise Allah; whoever senses the former should seek refuge with Allah from Satan.”
He then recited: “Satan promises you poverty and commands you to indecency” (Q 2:268).
