23 – Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥārith al-Muqriʾ narrated to us; Sayyār ibn Ḥātim narrated to us; Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Mālik al-Nukrī narrated to us; I heard Abū al-Jawzāʾ say:
“By Him in whose hand my soul rests, Satan clings to a person’s heart, so that its owner is unable to remember Allah the Exalted.
Do you not see them in their gatherings and marketplaces? One of them may pass almost the entire day without mentioning Allah the Exalted except when swearing an oath. Nothing drives him away from the heart except the words, ‘There is no deity but Allah.’ ”
He then recited: “And when you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn their backs in aversion” (al-Isrāʾ 17:46).
٢٣ - قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي الدُّنْيَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الحارث المقري، حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَالِكٍ النُّكْرِيُّ، سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْجَوْزَاءِ يَقُولُ:
: وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لازِمٌ بِالْقَلْبِ، مَا يَسْتَطِيعُ صَاحِبُهُ أَنْ يَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى.
أَمَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ فِي مَجَالِسِهِمْ، وَأَسْوَاقِهِمْ، يَأْتِي عَلَى أَحَدِهُمْ عَامَّةُ يَوْمِهِ لا يذكر الله تعالى إلا حالفا، ماله مِنَ الْقَلْبِ طَرْدٌ إِلا قَوْلُهُ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ.
ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: ﴿وَإِذَا ذَكَرْتَ رَبَّكَ في القرآن وحده ولوا على أدبارهم نفورا﴾ .
