21 – Isḥāq ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us; ʿAbdullāh ibn Numayr narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Mālik ibn al-Ḥārith, from Abū Khālid al-Wābilī, who said:
“I set out as a delegate to ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him), taking my family with me. We stopped at a certain lodging place, my family walking behind me. I heard the voices of some boys and their uproar, so I began reciting the Qur’an aloud. I then heard a heavy thud, as though something had been thrown down. When I asked them about it, they said, ‘The devils had seized us and were toying with us; but when you raised your voice with the Qur’an, they dropped us and fled.’”
