8 – Muḥammad ibn Qudāmah narrated to me; he said: ʿUmar ibn Yūnus al-Yamāmī al-Ḥanafī narrated to us; he said: ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us; Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah narrated to me; he said: Anas ibn Mālik related:

“The daughter of ʿAwf ibn ʿAfrāʾ was lying on her bed when, without warning, a dark-skinned man leapt onto her chest and pressed his hand against her throat. Suddenly a yellow parchment came fluttering down from between heaven and earth until it landed on my chest. He snatched it up and read it, and there was written:

‘In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
From the Lord of Lakīn to Lakīn: Keep away from the daughter of the righteous servant, for you have no power over her.’

At that he rose, removed his hand from my throat, and struck my knee with his palm, so that it swelled until it was the size of a sheep’s head.

She said, ‘I went to ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, and told her what had happened. She said, “My niece, whenever you are afraid, gather your clothes tightly around you; by Allah’s will he will not harm you.”’

Anas concluded: Allah protected her because of her father, for he had been martyred on the Day of Badr.
