73 – Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated:

When Adam was sent down to the earth, he came down in India. At that time his head reached the sky, but the earth complained to its Lord about Adam’s weight, so the All-Compelling laid His Hand on Adam’s head and his stature was reduced by seventy cubits. He also descended carrying ʿajwah dates, citron, and bananas.

Once he had been cast down, Adam said, “My Lord, this servant against whom You have set enmity between me and him—if You do not help me against him, I have no strength over him.” Allah said, “No child will be born to you except that I assign over him an angel.”

Adam said, “My Lord, increase that for me.”

He said, “I repay an evil deed with only its like, whereas for a good deed I grant ten times its like, and even more as I will.”

Adam said, “My Lord, increase that for me.”

He said, “The gate of repentance remains open for him as long as the soul is in the body.”

Iblis then said, “My Lord, this servant whom You have honored—if You do not help me against him, I have no power over him.” He said, “No child is born to him but that a child is born to you.”

Iblis said, “My Lord, increase that for me.”

He said, “You will flow within him as blood flows, and you may take up dwellings in their chests.”

Iblis said, “My Lord, increase that for me.”

He said, “Rally against them your cavalry and your infantry, and share with them in wealth and children.”
