7 – Abū Jaʿfar al-Kindī related to me; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn Ṣirmah al-Anṣārī related to us, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, who said:
When death approached ʿAmrah bint ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, a number of the Successors (tābiʿīn) gathered at her bedside. Among them were ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad, and Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. As they sat with her and she lay unconscious, they suddenly heard a creaking from the roof, and a black serpent fell—so large it looked like a massive tree trunk. It lunged toward her, but at that very moment a white scroll descended, on which was written:
“In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
From the Lord of ʿAkab to ʿAkab: You have no authority over the daughters of the righteous.”
The creature glanced at the scroll, rose up, and departed by the same way it had come.
