6 – al-Qurashi related to us; he said: Abū Saʿīd al-Madanī related to me; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Uways related to me; he said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan related to me; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn Hārūn ibn Mūsā ibn Muḥammad ibn Iyās ibn al-Bukayr al-Laythī related to me, saying: my father related to me, from Ḥasan ibn Ḥasan, who said:
I visited al-Rubayyiʿ bint Muʿawwiḍ ibn ʿAfrāʾ to ask her about a certain matter. She told me: “While I was sitting in my room, the roof split open and down came a pitch-black creature, something the size of a camel—or perhaps a donkey. I had never seen anything so dark, so strangely shaped, so terrifying. It drew near to seize me, and a small tablet followed after it. I opened the tablet and read: ‘From the Lord of ʿAkab to ʿAkab: Henceforth you have no access to the righteous woman, the daughter of the righteous.’ At that, the creature turned back the way it had come while I watched it leave.”
Ḥasan ibn Ḥasan added: “She showed me the document, and it was still in their possession.”
