- Abu Bakr ibn ʿUbayd reported: Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us, Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from al-Hasan, from ʿAmmar ibn Yasir, who said:
“I fought alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ against both the jinn and human beings.”
He was asked, “How did you fight the jinn and human beings?” He replied:
“We were travelling with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When we made camp, I took my waterskin and bucket to fetch water. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Someone will come to the water and try to stop you.’
“When I reached the edge of the well, there appeared a black man, as though he were a streak of pitch, who said, ‘By Allah, you will not draw a single bucketful today!’ He grabbed me and I grabbed him; I threw him to the ground, picked up a stone, and shattered his face and nose with it. Then I filled my waterskin and returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
“He asked, ‘Did anyone come to you at the water?’ I replied, ‘Yes,’ and told him what had happened.
“‘Do you know who that was?’ he asked. I said, ‘No.’ He said, ‘That was Satan.’”
