On the recto of its first folio is written:
Part One of The Comprehensive Exposition of the Interpretation of the Quran, authored by Abū Jafar Muhammad ibn Jarīr al-Tabarī (may Allah have mercy on him).
Beneath it is the aforementioned endowment inscription.
Its opening reads:
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. O Lord, bring it to completion by Your mercy.
Imam Abū Jafar Muhammad ibn Jarīr al-Tabarī (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
Praise be to Allah, whose wondrous wisdom confounds the intellects…
The second part (shelfmark 11935):
It comprises (16) folios. It begins with the commentary on verse (56) of Surah al-Baqarah and ends midway through the commentary on verse (150) of the same surah.
It contains a substantial lacuna beginning midway through verse (58) and ending midway through verse (146).
On the recto of its first folio is written:
The second volume of The Comprehensive Exposition of the Interpretation of the Quran, authored by Shaykh and Imam Abū Jafar Muhammad ibn Jarīr al-Tabarī (may Allah have mercy on him), covering Surah al-Baqarah. It extends from the words of Allah Most High:
“Then We brought you back to life after your death.”
[al-Baqarah: 56]
to His words in Surah al-Baqarah:
“And so that I may complete My favor upon you and that you may be rightly guided.”
[al-Baqarah: 150]
The aforementioned endowment formula is written beneath it.
Its opening reads:
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. O Lord, make it easy and do not make it difficult. The discussion concerning the interpretation of His words:
“Then We brought you back to life after your death, so that you might be grateful.”
Its closing reads:
The second volume is complete with the aid of Allah Most High. May Allah bless His Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions, and grant them peace.
It is followed in the third volume, Allah Most High willing, by the discussion concerning the interpretation of His words:
