The fifth and final volume of this copy:
190:
It begins with verse 8 of Surah al-Zumar and ends with the conclusion of the tafsir.
Its opening reads:
“In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. We seek His assistance. Commentary on the interpretation of His words: ‘When adversity touches man, he calls upon his Lord, turning to Him in repentance …’”
Its ending reads:
“This is the end of the Book of Tafsir. Praise be to Allah with the praise that is rightly His. This is the end of the discourse in The Comprehensive Exposition of the Interpretation of the Verses of the Quran, composed by Abū Jafar Muhammad ibn Jarīr al-Tabarī (may Allah have mercy on him). May Allah reward him on behalf of the seekers of knowledge who came after him with the finest reward He grants to one who establishes a good practice or directs others to a noble deed. May Allah bestow upon our master Muhammad, the Chosen, and upon his good and virtuous family everlasting and inseparable blessings and peace, enduring as long as the dominion of Allah, the One, the All-Subduing. He is sufficient for me and the best Disposer of affairs. There is no power and no strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.
“Its transcription was completed after the Asr prayer on the blessed Monday, the twenty-second of the month of Jumādā al-Ūlā, in the year 1140, reckoned from the Hijrah of him who possesses might, perfection, splendor, glory, and nobility—our master and patron Muhammad. May Allah bless him and his good and pure family and Companions, and may He benefit us through them all. It was copied by the poorest of servants, the poor and lowly one who acknowledges his incapacity and shortcomings, the needy Āmir ibn Ahmad ibn Āmir al-Ashmūnī al-Shāfiī al-Azharī. May Allah forgive him and his parents, whoever was instrumental in acquiring this blessed tafsir, whoever assisted with it, and all Muslims. Amen. Peace be upon the messengers, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Completed. May Allah bless our master Muhammad, his family, and his Companions, and grant them peace.”
