Part Twenty of the same copy:
284, Institute; 40/491, al-Qarawiyyīn Collection.
It begins with verse 80 of Surah al-Arāf and ends with verse 98 of Surah Yūnus. A large lacuna intervenes, beginning at verse 165 of Surah al-Arāf and extending through the end of verse 98 of Surah Yūnus.
I believe that two parts of the manuscript have been combined, for two reasons:
First, the size of this lacuna.
Second, the discrepancy between the manuscript’s ending and what is stated on its first folio.
I also believe that no more than three folios are missing from this manuscript, because the scribe indicated that it ended with: “When they arrogantly persisted in what they had been forbidden” [al-Arāf: 166], while the verse immediately preceding the lacuna is verse 164. The remaining folios were mistakenly incorporated into it, and we have placed them in their proper location in Part Thirty-Two.
On the recto of its first folio is written:
“The Twentieth.”
Above it:
“It contains, from the words of Allah (mighty and majestic is He) in al-Arāf: ‘And [We sent] Lot when he said to his people, “Do you commit the obscenity?”’ [al-Arāf: 80], to His words, Exalted is He: ‘When they arrogantly persisted in what they had been forbidden, We said to them, “Be despised apes!”’ [al-Arāf: 166].”
It opens:
“In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Discussion of the interpretation of His words, majestic is His praise: ‘And [We sent] Lot when he said to his people, “Do you commit an obscenity never committed before you by anyone in all the worlds?”’ [al-Arāf: 80].”
It ends:
“This volume has been completed, and abundant praise belongs to Allah. It will be followed, Allah willing, by the discussion of the interpretation of His words (mighty and majestic is He): ‘Had your Lord willed, all those on earth would have believed’ [Yūnus: 99].”
The part comprises 110 folios, with approximately 17 lines per page.
A fragment of Part Thirty-One of the same copy:
297, Institute;
40/791, al-Qarawiyyīn Collection.
Its beginning is missing. The extant portion begins with verse 101 of Surah al-Tawba and ends with the end of the surah.
