8 — “Biographical History of the Companions and Followers” (1).
9 — “The Book of Enlightenment” (2):
This is an epistle addressed to the people of Āmul in Tabaristān, in which he explains the dispute that arose among them concerning the name and that which it names. It also discusses the doctrines of the people of innovation and runs to approximately thirty folios.
10 — “Ranking of Scholars” (3):
This is one of his valuable works. He began it with Etiquette of Souls and organized it around the obligatory duties incumbent upon each bodily organ. He began with the obligations incumbent upon the heart and tongue … intending to cover every organ of the body and the reports narrated on the subject from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—the Companions, and the Followers. He did not complete it.
11 — “Refinement of Reports and Detailed Exposition of the Narrations Reliably Established from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace” (4):
He began this work with the reports of Abū Bakr al-Siddīq (may Allah be pleased with him) whose chains of transmission he deemed sound. He discussed the defects and transmission routes of each hadith, then its legal implications, the scholars’ disagreements and their proofs, the meanings and rare vocabulary it contained, and the refutation of the heretics. He completed the musnads of the Ten Companions, the Prophet’s Household, and the clients, as well as part of the musnad of Ibn Abbās. The book was published in an edition prepared by Shaykh Mahmūd Shākir.
12 — “The Comprehensive Exposition of the Interpretation of the Verses of the Quran” (the book now before us).
