Al-Risālah al-AkmalīyahIbn Taimiya

while the other does not do so, whether out of fear, pride, or some other reason, the former is more perfect than the latter.

Moreover, such a claim cannot be made when this is done at the command of the one who is obeyed. If he permits people to draw near to him and enter his dwelling, that is neither disrespectful toward him nor a diminution of him. This objection, then, is directed against anyone who worships Him in a manner He has not prescribed.

For this reason, Allah Most High says:

{Indeed, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, a warner, and one who calls to Allah by His permission.}

[al-Ahzāb: 45, 46]

And Allah Most High says:

{Or do they have partners who have prescribed for them as religion that which Allah has not authorized?}

[al-Shūrā: 21]
