The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said concerning the man who, together with his wife, put their guest before themselves:
“Allah was indeed amazed.”
In another wording recorded in the Sahīh:
“Allah indeed laughed tonight at what the two of you did last night.”
He also said:
“The Lord is indeed amazed at His servant when he says, ‘My Lord, forgive me, for none forgives sins but You.’ He says, ‘My servant knows that none forgives sins but Me.’”
He said:
“Your Lord is amazed at a young man who has no youthful passion.”
[His words, “has no youthful passion,” mean that he has no inclination toward vain desire.]
He also said:
“Your Lord is amazed at a shepherd tending sheep atop a high mountain outcrop, who gives the call to prayer and announces its commencement. Allah says, ‘Look at My servant.’”
[His words, “a high mountain outcrop,” mean a raised piece at the summit of a mountain. See.]
Or words to that effect, and other similar reports.
