As for attributes of imperfection, one example is sleep. A living being who is awake is more perfect than one who is asleep or drowsy, while neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Allah.
Likewise, one who preserves something without strain is more perfect than one who is burdened by doing so. Allah Most High—His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and preserving them does not tire Him.
Similarly, one who acts without growing weary is more perfect than one who does grow weary. Allah Most High created the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them in six days, and no weariness touched Him.
This is why the Lord is described by knowledge rather than ignorance; power rather than inability; life rather than death; hearing, sight, and speech rather than deafness, blindness, and muteness; laughter rather than weeping; and joy rather than sorrow.
As for anger together with pleasure, and hatred together with love, possessing these is more perfect than possessing only pleasure and love, without hatred and anger toward things that deserve condemnation and hatred. Hence, His being characterized as giving and withholding, lowering and raising, and honoring and abasing is more perfect than His being characterized solely by giving, honoring, and raising. For one who also performs the contrary action when wisdom requires it is more perfect than one who performs only one of the two kinds of action and neglects the other where it is appropriate.
Whoever reflects upon this subject will find it governed by the rule of what is right. Allah is the One who guides those possessed of understanding.
