Al-Radd ʿalā al-ManṭiqiyyīnIbn Taimiya

This example is one that Muslim scholars who write on logic often cite.

Illustrating with forms stripped of their concrete matter:
The logicians illustrate with abstract forms that point to nothing specific, lest the learner derive knowledge from the particular shape of the example itself. Thus they say:

Every A is B.
Every B is C.
Therefore, every A is C.

Yet the real purpose is to gain knowledge of the concrete matters involved. Once those matters are abstracted away, an observer may assume that such abstraction is necessary for the particulars, but that is not the case.

Indeed, if they were required to establish certain knowledge of the two universal premises in all their rational claims not taken from the infallible Messengers, you would find them arguing in a way that allows one to know the needed particulars without knowing the universal proposition; therefore, knowledge of the particulars is not dependent on their so-called demonstrative syllogism.

Prophetic propositions need no rational syllogism of the type they label “demonstration,” and the sciences attained by reason likewise have no need of their demonstrative inference. Thus it is unnecessary for matters of pure reason and for matters transmitted by revelation alike.

Consequently, it is untenable to claim that knowledge is acquired only through the demonstrative syllogism they describe.

Empirical knowledge exists only as particular, specific cases:
A point that clarifies this is that perceptual judgments are invariably particular. Through the senses we perceive only that this fire burns and that fire burns; we do not perceive that every fire burns. When we fashion from this a universal proposition—“Every fire burns”—we have no path to certain knowledge of that universal statement, whereas knowing the fact in the individual instances is, a fortiori, possible.

And if it is said, “The aim is not knowledge of the particulars, for demonstration yields only knowledge of a universal proposition, and the conclusions obtained through it are necessarily universal,” as they themselves assert
