Al-Rad 'ala al-JahmiyaAhmad Ibn Hanbal

The heretics cast doubt upon His saying,

“Indeed, Allah loves those who act with equity …”

As for His words,

“Indeed, Allah loves those who act with equity” ⦗al-Māʾidah 5:42⦘,

He also said in another verse,

“But as for the qāsiṭūn, they shall be fuel for Hell” ⦗al-Jinn 72:15⦘.

They protested, “How can this be part of the unequivocal speech? 2” For, concerning the verse

“But as for the qāsiṭūn, they shall be fuel for Hell,”

they understood it to mean “those who are just.”

(2) Al-Shanqiti, may Allah have mercy on him, notes that the verse, “As for the qasitun, they will be fuel for Jahannam” (Quran 72:15), does not conflict with the verse, “Indeed, Allah loves the muqsitun” (Quran 5:42), because qasit designates the unjust person, whereas muqsit denotes the just one; the two words are exact opposites.
