The heretics also cast doubt upon His statement:
“And on the Day when the Hour is established, the wicked will swear that they remained no more than an hour” …
Concerning His—exalted is He—word:
“And on the Day when the Hour is established, the wicked will swear that they remained no more than an hour” (30:55),
He likewise says:
“They will whisper among themselves, ‘You stayed only ten [nights]’” (20:103),
and He says:
“You stayed only a single day” (20:104),
and He says:
“You stayed only a little while” (17:52).
Because of this, the heretics entertained doubts.2
(2) Shaykh al-Shanqiti, may Allah have mercy on him, comments on the verse: “They will say: ‘We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who keep count’” (al-Muminun 23:113). This noble verse shows that, on the Day of Judgment, the disbelievers will allege they stayed only a day or part of a day. Yet other verses appear to indicate otherwise, such as His saying: “They will whisper to one another…”
شك الزنادقة في قوله:
{وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ يُقْسِمُ الْمُجْرِمُونَ مَا لَبِثُوا غَيْرَ سَاعَةٍ}
...
أما قوله عز وجل:
{وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ يُقْسِمُ الْمُجْرِمُونَ مَا لَبِثُوا غَيْرَ سَاعَةٍ}
[الروم: ٥٥]

وقال:
{يَتَخَافَتُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِنْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلاَّ عَشْرًا}
[طه: ١٠٣]
.
وقال:
{إِنْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلاَّ يَوْمًا}
[طه: ١٠٤]
.
وقال:
{إِنْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً}
[الإسراء: ٥٢]

ومن أجل ذلك شكت الزنادقة٢.
٢ قال الشيخ الشنقيطي رحمه الله تعالى: قوله تعالى: {قَالُوا لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ فَاسْأَلِ الْعَادِّينَ} [المؤمنون: ١١٣] .
هذه الآية الكريمة تدل على أن الكفار يزعمون يوم القيامة أنهم ما لبثوا إلا يومًا أبو بعض يوم، وقد جاءت آيات أُخر يفهم منها خلاف ذلك، كقوله تعالى: {يَتَخَافَتُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ} =
