their idols as well, He will say, “Where are My partners—those whom you used to claim?” (28:62). Allah also says: “Their only plea will be to say, ‘By Allah, our Lord, we were not polytheists.’” (6:23). When they conceal their idolatry, Allah will seal their mouths and make their limbs speak; the limbs will testify accordingly. That is His word: “Today We shall seal their mouths, their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will bear witness to what they used to earn.” (36:65). Thus Allah, exalted be He, has informed us how the limbs will testify, and this is the explanation of the matter about which the heretics entertained doubts.1

أصنامهم وقال:
{أَيْنَ شُرَكَائِي الَّذِينَ كُنتُمْ تَزْعُمُونَ}

قال الله:
{ثُمَّ لَمْ تَكُنْ فِتْنَتُهُمْ إِلاَّ أَنْ قَالُوا وَاللَّهِ رَبِّنَا مَا كُنَّا مُشْرِكِينَ}
[الأنعام: ٢٣]

فلما كتموا الشرك، ختم الله على أفواههم، وأنطق الجوارح، فنطقت بذلك،
فذلك قوله:
{الْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلَى أَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَا أَيْدِيهِمْ وَتَشْهَدُ أَرْجُلُهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ}
[يس: ٦٥]
. فأخبر الله عز وجل عن الجوارح حين شهدت، فهذا تفسير ما شكت فيه الزنادقة١.
أَنفُسِهِمْ} قال: بتكذيب الله إياهم.
