The heretics also cast doubt on His words:
“Indeed, a single day with your Lord is like a thousand years of what you reckon ….”
Concerning this verse—“Indeed, a single day with your Lord is like a thousand years of what you reckon” (Q 22:47)—He also said in another passage:
“He directs every affair from heaven down to earth; then it ascends to Him in a day whose measure is a thousand years of what you reckon” (Q 32:5).
And in yet another verse He said:
“The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day whose measure is fifty thousand years. So be patient with a gracious patience” (Q 70:4–5).
They objected, saying, “How can this be called coherent revelation when each verse appears to contradict the others?”²
(2) Shaykh al-Shanqiti (may Allah have mercy on him) comments on the verse: “wa inna yawman ‘inda rabbika ka-alf sanatin mimma ta‘uddun” (Al-Hajj 47). This verse shows that a single day with Allah is equivalent to one thousand of the years you count, and the same meaning is affirmed in His other statement: —
شك الزنادقة في قوله:
{وَإِنَّ يَوْماً عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ كَأَلْفِ سَنَةٍ مِمَّا تَعُدُّونَ}
...
أما قوله:
{وَإِنَّ يَوْماً عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ كَأَلْفِ سَنَةٍ مِمَّا تَعُدُّونَ}
[الحج: ٤٧]
وقال في آية أخرى:
{يُدَبِّرُ الأَمْرَ مِنْ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يَعْرُجُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ مِمَّا تَعُدُّونَ}
[السجدة: ٥]
وقال في آية أخرى:
{تَعْرُجُ الْمَلائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ، فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلاً}
[المعارج: ٤، ٥]

كيف يكون هذا من الكلام المحكم، وهو ينقض بعضه بعضًا؟ ٢.
٢ قال الشيخ الشنقيطي رحمه الله: قوله تعالى: {وَإِنَّ يَوْماً عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ كَأَلْفِ سَنَةٍ مِمَّا تَعُدُّونَ} [الحج: ٤٧] .
