All the other innovations—those of the Khawarij, the Shia, the Murjiʾa and the Qadariyya—can claim at least a semblance of support in the words of the prophets, unlike the innovation of the Jahmiyya who negate the divine attributes, for they possess no textual proof whatsoever. That is why theirs was the last heresy to appear in Islam, and why, as soon as it arose, the early Muslims and leading scholars declared its adherents unbelievers, knowing that its real import is to abolish belief in the Creator. Consequently, the more consistent among them end up like Pharaoh, the arch-denier, and even defend and venerate him. The people of falsehood pit their statements against the Quran and the Sunnah. Exposing the falsity of those statements is therefore one of the two pillars of establishing the truth and one of the duties incumbent on Muslims. Had these innovators left the prophetic texts alone, those texts would have guided and sufficed. Instead, they assailed them like warriors fighting God and His Messenger. Repelling their attack and laying bare their misguidance is thus among the greatest forms of jihad in God’s cause. End of quotation. By it, brighten my face on the day when the faces of the people of the sunnah and unity are illumined, and the faces of the people of division and dissension are darkened.
