And in the report transmitted by Thābit al-Banānī from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā2 [from Suhayb] on the authority of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—he said:

“When the people of Paradise are settled in Paradise and a herald calls out, ‘O people of Paradise! Allah has granted you permission for an additional favour,’ the veil will be lifted and He will manifest Himself to them,”3 and he related the rest of the ḥadith.

Imam Aḥmad—may Allah have mercy on him—said:4 “They will behold Allah—there is no god but He—and we pray that Jahm and his party will be among those who do not behold their Lord and are barred from Allah, for Allah has said concerning the unbelievers:

(1) Ibn Mandah records it as a mawquf report from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) in his Refutation of the Jahmiyyah, p. 95, no. 84; al-Ajurri cites it likewise in al-Shariʿah, 2/994–996, nos. 589–591. Al-Ajurri also transmits it as a mawquf narration from Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), no. 591/B. (3) Reported by Ahmad, 4/332 and 6/15; Muslim, no. 181; Tirmidhi, nos. 2552 and 3105; Ibn Majah, no. 187; Ibn Mandah, Refutation of the Jahmiyyah, no. 83; and al-Ajurri, al-Shariʿah, nos. 602–604. Muslim’s version states: “When the people of Paradise have entered Paradise, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, will say: ‘Do you wish Me to give you anything more?’ They will reply: ‘Have You not brightened our faces, admitted us to Paradise and saved us from the Fire?’ He will then remove the veil, and they will be granted nothing dearer to them than the vision of their Lord, Mighty and Majestic.” Muslim adds: Then he recited: For those who excel there shall be the best [reward] and something extra (Yunus 10:26).
