[Affirming the Vision of Allah, Mighty and Exalted, in the Hereafter]
…and they said, “Allah is not to be seen, neither in this world nor in the hereafter.” To prove their point they recited one of the ambiguous verses in Allah’s speech, exalted be His praise:
“Vision cannot perceive Him, while He perceives all vision” [6:103].
Yet the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—knew exactly what Allah meant by, “Vision cannot perceive Him,” and still declared, “You will indeed see your Lord.”1
Allah also said to Moses, “You shall never see Me,” but He did not say, “I shall never be seen.” Which of the two, then, deserves our adherence: the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—when he said, “You will indeed see your Lord,” or the Jahmite when he says, “You will not see your Lord”?!
The ḥadiths preserved by the scholars from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—state that the inhabitants of Paradise will behold their Lord, and the scholars hold no disagreement on this matter.
Sufyān narrated from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd regarding Allah’s words,
“For those who excelled there is the very best reward and even more besides” [10:26],
who explained: “The ‘even more’ is to gaze upon His Face.”
