A discussion of the so-called “wāw of eight.”

Their claim that the conjunction wāw is inserted in order to signal an eighth item rests on no sound proof. They have cited a number of passages, and we shall examine them one by one.

First citation: the words of the Almighty,

“Those who repent, who worship, who praise, who travel for the sake of Allah, who bow, who prostrate, who enjoin what is right, and who forbid what is wrong.” (At-Tawbah 9:112)
