—may Allah be pleased with him—was unaware of the abrogation, so he continued to clasp his hands together. Alqama and al-Aswad then prayed beside him and placed their hands upon their knees, but he—may Allah be pleased with him—forbade them from doing so and instructed them to clasp their hands together.1 Why? Because he did not know that the practice had been abrogated, and a person is only burdened according to his capacity.
Allah Most High says:
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. It shall have the good it has earned, and it shall bear the evil it has committed. Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not lay upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we cannot bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our Protector, so grant us victory over the disbelieving people.”2.
