Just as the knowledge produced by mutawātir transmission is divided into what is general and what is specific—so that something may be mutawātir among a select circle while remaining unknown, much less mutawātir, to others—the hadith scholars, thanks to their intense devotion to their Prophet’s Sunnah and their meticulous preservation of his sayings, actions, and states, attain a level of certain knowledge about these matters in which they have no doubt whatsoever, while other people have absolutely no awareness of them.
