al-Tawassul: Anwauhu wa AhkamuhuNasir al-Din al-Albani

A third consideration is that tawassul through specific persons resembles the way people approach earthly kings and governors via their favored courtiers. Yet Allah—exalted is He, and nothing whatsoever resembles Him, as even the practitioners of this tawassul acknowledge—cannot be compared to such rulers. Thus, when a Muslim seeks nearness to Him through individuals, he is in effect likening the Almighty to those kings and governors, as has already been shown, and this is impermissible.
